Schools are the place of reasoning, learning, and exposition to all the different ways of life for the purpose of preparing students to adapt to the community or to transform the community into a better living place. “The strongest argument against the state of families is that neither parents nor a centralized state has a right to exclusive authority over the education of children.” (Gutmann, 1987). The idea of having an entity having absolute control of what teachers teach in a public school setting is an undesirable thought because it can lead to the authoritarianism of government, or dictatorship. “When the state or federal government control the education of all of our children, they have the dangerous and illegitimate monopoly to control and influence the thought process of our citizens.” (Michael Badnarik). A group of people can manipulate student’s minds, teachers and anyone that participate in public education if the state or national government is allowed to reign over education one hundred percent. “It is the job of the school community to advocate for schools and the children it serves.” (Wempe, 2016). Schools succeed not because of the money schools receive from government agencies alone, but it is the community that comes side by side the schools as a support provider. The final objective of this educational race is to create a link with the school and community for the betterment of the society and not only of those that attend school. The parent teacher association should encompass and welcome the community members to renovate and instill moral values to our children for the positive progress of the common good.
“It truly comes down to mutual respect.” (Wempe, 2016). Instead of respect, I call it trust. A trusting heart deserves a truthful selfless motive from the helping hand. The ultimate goal is for the benefit of the students and to aim for a greater virtuous, respectful and economic growth of the community. “All educable children be educated adequately to participate as citizens in shaping the future structure of their society.” (Gutmann, 1987).
School spending and control must be at the local level of each community alongside the help of the state. The community must make a priority to justify funds for the benefit of students learning. The state’s education program is a reflection of the culture and solid education system of each community. “The best means of forming a manly, virtuous, and happy people will be found in the right education of youth. Without this foundation, every other means, in my opinion, must fail.” (George Washington). Equity, equality, and equilibrium in education must be the agency by which our society must function.
